Anchors away! Summertime is a perfect time for a nautical themed baby shower. It just lends itself to an all-American red, white and blue décor with flags, anchors and boats setting the scene. It also works well to welcome a little boy to the world in
Set sail with a blue tablecloth, red napkins and white plates. Look for a nautical-themed ribbon that you can tie around candlesticks, baskets or use to edge the table for an added accent. If you know your nautical knots, use rope as napkin rings or as
ties elsewhere around the room.
Have access to sand and seashells? Use them to fill buckets or glass vases to decorate tabletops and pour some around candles in bowls as centerpieces. Hang a banner of flags, anchors or other nautical cutouts across the entranceway to the party to welcome the crowd.
Have fun with your food. Float tub toy sailboats in your punch bowl and freeze plastic toy fish in ice cubes. See if your candy supply store sells edible shells or candy anchors to use as cute cupcake toppers. Or make your own sailboat decorations: cut
out two-inch triangles from assorted color-coordinated scrapbook paper and make two small holes, one at the top and the second near the bottom of each. Put toothpicks or lollipop sticks through the holes and they’ll look like little sails perfect for
decorating your cake, pieces of fruit or sandwiches to look like you've got a whole regatta.
Use adorable baby sailor caps as part of the decor that doubles as a favor. Set up a craft table where your guests can decorate them for their own little matey. Or stock a supply of baby onesies, fabric paint and assorted nautical stamps and have everyone
make a gift for the new baby.
Share your words of wisdom with the new mom. Let everyone write a message and drop it into a large glass jar with the sign “Message in a bottle.”
For a fun time, set up a photo booth where you can use props and make silly poses. Supply sailor caps, mustaches, bowties, rubber duckies and life preservers and take photos of all the guests in front of different backdrops. Print out oversized photos
of rough seas, a cruise ship, a giant anchor and more. Make sure to give a copy to your guests and save one of each to put in a book for the mommy-to-be.
For additional favors, send guests home with tins filled with candy lifesavers, sand buckets and shovels or a rubber duckie of their own to remember the day.
