How to use the tool to search

There are a few key parts of the Huggies® Baby Name Finder to familiarize yourself with, including the search by and filter by functions.

  • Search by: You can search by name, letter of the alphabet, name meaning or even popular names by year. You can start here if you don’t know where to start, or if you have very specific requests. For example, you can set the meaning filter to show all names meaning “flower,” or you can set the filter to show all names that start with the letter “Q.” You can also search by a specific name, such as Caroline or David.

  • Filter by: Under the filter by function, you can filter by boy names, girl names or unisex names. Don’t let that stop you from getting creative, however. These are merely just suggestions.

When you put the two functions together, you can run robust searches, such as names that start with the letter “M” that are unisex, or all the boys’ names that mean “strong.” You can even sort by the most popular names from 2015-2021.

Saving your favorite names

After you run a search, the Huggies® Baby Name Finder will pull up all the names that meet your criteria. You can now browse the options, which will show the name, the gender, the language of origin and the meaning. You can save them by clicking on the heart to the right of the name. The tool will save your favorite names for you to revisit later.

How Huggies finds the names

The Huggies® Baby Name Finder pulls from the top 1,000 names each year. The list is put out by the Social Security Administration, which represents 70% of all names on record. Huggies has the data from 2015 through 2021.

If you are looking for a specific year—say, the year your grandmother was born, 1942—you can check out the Social Security Administration’s baby names page. It has data dating all the way back to 1880. (Fun fact: the top boy names in 1880 were John, William, James, Charles and George, and the top girl names were Mary, Anna, Emma, Elizabeth and Minnie!)

Parents get inspiration for their children’s names from many places. It can be from friends, family, people you admire, literary characters, royalty and even Disney. There really is no limit other than your imagination when it comes to naming your baby. Soon enough your little one will be smiling when they hear the name you’ve chosen. Whatever name you choose is the best name for him or her.
