8 Easy Ways to Organize Your Nursery

By Lauren Hartmann, Disney Baby

Obviously setting up a nursery is a lot about having fun and expressing an aesthetic, but aside from the fun of it, a nursery should also be functional. Babies have a lot of tiny clothes and gear, and it's important to be able to find these things without having to hunt around, because as a busy parent you definitely don't have time for that. This is where organization comes in, but I promise it doesn't have to be overwhelming. Here are a few simple tips to help you get (and keep!) your little one's nursery organized.

8 Easy Ways To Organize Your Nursery:

1. Baskets

It is my strong opinion that a nursery can never have too many baskets. Gather baskets in a variety of sizes and you will always find ways to put them to good use. I use baskets for sorting toys, storing diapering supplies and pretty much anything else you can think of. I love that they're versatile and moveable - perfect for a nursery and the ever-changing needs of little ones.

2. Drawer Organizers

Having drawer dividers is a lifesaver when it comes to keeping tiny baby clothes and supplies organized. Without them it can be all but impossible to track down those tiny socks or that favorite pair of tiny pants. Drawer organizers will keep your tiny ensembles organized and will simultaneously keep you happy and sane. You can also use them to divide up other baby supplies like diapers, pacifiers, burp rags, etc...

3. Shelves

There are so many great shelving ideas on Pinterest that I've no doubts you will find something to inspire your nursery. Shelves can serve for mere decorative purposes, or you can put them to work housing toys, books and the like. I prefer to have shelving options that are at child level so my daughter can easily access toys and books. It's a great way to help your little one feel empowered by giving them the opportunity to choose their own activities.

4. Hooks

Hooks are a simple way to hang items you want to access regularly - particularly cute items of clothing that can also double as decor. I would suggest using hooks to hang jackets, jammies or even a pre-planned outfit for the following day.

4. Clear Storage Bins

Clear storage bins are a great way to easily access all of those baby items that you regularly need, but don't actually need right now. Sort like items together into boxes and then label them for extra ease. I would suggest using these bins to store any clothing that your baby has yet to grow into or toys that he or she isn't quite ready for just yet. You could also store extra baby toiletries in these bins as well (think baby wash, diaper cream, diapers, etc.).

6. Closet Divider Bags

Hanging clothes can make dressing baby infinitely more simple...unless you can't actually find the correct size outfits. An easy solution is to divide your nursery closet items into sizes and then add hanging tags to separate them - just like they have at department stores. You can find free printable sizing labels online (newborn, 3-6 months, 6-12 months, etc...) and your job getting Baby dressed just got way easier.

6. Under Crib Storage

Don't let that extra space under the crib go to waste! Invest in some under-the-bed storage bins to store extra crib linens and out-of-season clothing and toys. You'll appreciate all the closet space it frees up!

6. Created Designated Spaces

One of the things we did when we were setting up our daughter's nursery, was to use a Montessori approach and set up her room with designated spaces for different activities (you can see a few photos of the space here). We had a sleep area, a quiet calm area, an exploration area, etc. Having defined spaces can definitely make organizing baby items a bit easier while giving your baby great options for exploring their environment.
