Plan a Budget-Friendly Babymoon

Are you hoping that there’s a babymoon in your future? Babymoons offer a wonderful opportunity to relax and reconnect with your partner by taking one last vacation before baby and the responsibilities of parenthood arrive.

“Babymoons are becoming much more popular and are almost expected now, especially with your first child,” says babymoon expert Darcy Allen, a travel agent and owner of Travel by Darcy.

Celebrity moms make jetting off for a babymoon seem easy, but let’s face it, most parents-to-be don’t have a Hollywood budget. Since the main purpose of a babymoon is to enjoy some serious quality time as a couple, there are lots of ways that you can achieve that goal on a budget.

The beginning of your second trimester is usually an ideal time to enjoy a babymoon because you tend to feel better and have more energy. Of course, you should always check with your OB first before making any plans, to ensure that you are able to fly or do any other kind of traveling.

Here are some tips to help you plan your babymoon on a budget.

Maximize your Location

If you’re going to fly, be practical. You’ll get a much better deal on a flight that’s headed to a destination that is easily accessible from your local airport. For example, if you’re on the East Coast, destinations such as the Bahamas; Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Bermuda; Virginia Beach, or the Florida Keys will probably be much more budget-friendly for you than they would be for someone who lives in Seattle. Plus, your odds of scoring a non-stop flight will greatly increase, too.

Plan a Staycation

Since your babymoon is a time to recharge, reconnect, and even reflect on the new life you are about to bring into the world, you might want to avoid marathon sightseeing sessions or cross-country road trips. Staying local in a small B&B, a cozy inn, or boutique hotel in your hometown can provide the perfect environment for a romantic and relaxing getaway. Sticking close to home is also super budget friendly, so you just might be able to splurge on more luxurious accommodations.

Make a Phone Call

Want a good deal on those extra-special accommodations? Allen suggests that you pick up the phone because calling an inn or B&B directly can get results. If you personally speak to someone at the property and explain that you would like to make a reservation for a babymoon, you just might receive a special rate that is not published online. Taking the time to make a phone call could even lead to receiving special access to a suite or room that is not advertised or featured on the website.

Consider a Travel Agent

If you can fly to a destination and you have a budget of $2,000 or more, you may want to consider contacting a travel agent. They frequently have access to promotions or special amenities that are not available directly to the public or anywhere online. Yep, they’ve got connections. An agent with experience in planning babymoons can make recommendations that fit your budget and also ensure that all of your needs as parents-to-be are met.
