Baby Names from the Future

My handsome, geek of a husband has inspired a love of science fiction within me. Our son’s name was selected from a sci-fi movie, and we have other baby name ideas for number two (which are mostly also from sci-fi.)

I gathered a list of some of my favorites to share with you all. Some are cutting edge names straight from the future, while others have a more traditional flair. I hope you enjoy!

Dana — Dana Scully, X Files

The return of this show may bring a resurgence to this name!

Delenn — Delenn, Babylon 5

If you’re looking for something very unique to name your baby girl, this pretty name could be it!

River – River Tam, Firefly/Serenity

Honestly, this one was hard for me to include! If we have a baby girl for number two, this will likely be her name.

Elim — Elim Garak, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

According to the Bible, Elim was one of the places where the Israelites camped following their Exodus from Egypt. I think it makes for a strong, unique boy name!

Gwen – Gwen Cooper, Torchwood

This is such a pretty name, and you could go with Gwendolyn, if you wanted something longer and more formal.

Roland — Roland Deschain, The Dark Tower

This name is a bit older sounding, but it would definitely be cute for a baby boy.

Malcolm – Malcolm Reynolds, Firefly

I love this name, and I loved this show!

Emmett – Emmett Brown, Back to the Future

This boy name is a favorite of mine.

Galen – Galen Marek/Starkiller, Star Wars

According to our Baby Name Finder, this name means calm, and is of Gaelic origin. I’ve only met one person with this name, and I think it’s a good choice!

Korben – Korben Dallas, The Fifth Element

Fantastic film, and a cute name to boot!

Tigh – Colonel Tigh, Battlestar Galactica

Pronounced, “Tie.” This one is certainly unique and definitely adorable.

Felix — Felix Gaeta, Battlestar Galactica

I like the nickname “Fee!”

Ender — Ender Wiggin, Ender’s Game

I’m a huge Orson Scott Card fan, and this is one of my favorite characters of all time!

Aeryn – Aeryn Sun, Farscape

Unique spelling of a fairly common, gender neutral name.

Adelle — Adelle DeWitt, Dollhouse

This one is on the rise in popularity, although it’s likely not inspired by this character!

Jonas — Jonas Quinn, Stargate SG-1

I actually like both parts of this character’s name for baby boy names — take your pick!

Deanna — Deanna Troi, Star Trek: The Next Generation

One of my favorite people is named Deanna, so I think this would make an excellent name choice!

Olivia — Olivia Dunham, Fringe

I love the nickname “Olive,” which this character was lovingly called in the show.

Astrid – Astrid Famsworth, Fringe

Cute, and also a name that may be on the rise due to the kid’s movie, How to Train a Dragon.

Everett – Everett Young, Stargate Universe

This is a good, strong name!

Chloe – Chloe Armstrong, Stargate Universe

I’ve always liked this name!

Claire – Claire Bennet, Heroes

James – James “Sawyer” Ford, Lost

Aynsley – Aynsley Norris, Orphan Black

I think this name is adorable, but I’m not so sure about the spelling!

Micah – Micah Sanders, Heroes

Zane – Zane Donovan, Eureka

Jemma – Jemma Simmons, Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

This is a very sweet name for a baby girl!

Luke – Luke Skywalker, Star Wars

I’m sure we’ll see plenty of Star Wars inspired names rise in popularity this year!

Ava – Ava, Ex Machina

Nova – Nova-Prime, Guardians of the Galaxy

I actually met a little girl with this name the other day, and I really like it!

Gretchen – Gretchen Ross, Donnie Darko

Super cute!

Have you added any of these names to your list of possibilities for baby?
