50 Baby Names Inspired by Winter

This December, I’m not naming a brand new baby (instead, I’m celebrating my baby’s first birthday!), but if I was, these wintery names would be high on my list.

Click through to see some of my favorites: Winter Inspired Baby Names

These baby names are beautiful no matter what time of year your baby is born in!

Robin

Another winter bird, and a classic girl’s name.

Quilo

If you’re looking for an unusual name, this one comes from Roman mythology referring to the North Wind.

Olwen

Means “white footprint”

North

Directional names are always popular (think Easton or Weston), and North is a perfect winter fit.

Noel

Or go with the masculine version instead for a little boy.

Noelle

This festive girl name is a great fit for a little one born near Christmas.

Nicholas

I’m sure Santa won’t mind sharing his name.

Neve

Latin for “snow.”

Lumi

“Snow” in Finnish

Krystal

If snowflakes are keeping you and your new baby company, this might be the perfect name.

Crystal

Or stick with the more traditional spelling.

Jenara

A Latin version of “January.”

January

A pretty name for a little girl!

Jack

Jack Frost shares this super popular first name (it’s in the top 50 on the Social Security name list).

Iclyn

“Ice” might be a bit much, but this is a nice feminine variation on it.

Ivy

This winter vine is bright and beautiful even in the dead of winter.

Holly

Beautiful winter berries, and a popular girl’s name.

Hollie

Or try this spelling, if you want something a bit more unique.

Alaska

This state (which knows its fair share about winter) makes a great girl name.

Aspen

This name, borrowed from a popular ski resort, is trendy and cute.

Aster

If “Star” is a bit much for you, try this Greek version of the word instead.

Aubin

French for “white.”

Bianca

This lovely name means “white.”

Gwendolen

In Welsh, this means “White Circle.”

Gwen

If Gwendolen is too much of a mouthful, try the shortened variation instead.

Guinevere

Or another spin off of Gwendolen.

Gwenyth

Welsh for “white.”

Garnet

The January birthstone makes a great male or female name.

Cole

Here’s one kind of coal you might want to get in your stocking.

Gabriel

The name of the angel in the Christmas story.

Gabrielle

Or try the feminine version instead.

Eirwen

Means “white as snow.”

Eira

This pretty and uncommon name is a welsh word for “snow.”

Douglas

The name of one of the most popular varieties of Christmas trees.

Coldin

“Cold” might be too extreme, but “Coldin” makes a great name for a baby born in winter.

Colden

Or spell it with an “e” instead.

Christian

Strongly associated with Christmas, this is a perfect name for a baby born in mid-December (or go with “Christine” for a girl).

Carol

A perfect, celebratory name for a Christmas baby.

Demi

A shorter version of “Demeter,” the Greek goddess responsible for winter.

December

This might not be the most popular “month-as-name” but it’s one of my favorites!

Crispin

Perfect for a baby born on a crisp winter day.

Branch

This old-fashioned name brings to mind the bare and beautiful branches of trees in winter.

Star

Whether it reminds you of the Christmas star or just the bright winter-night stars, this is a beautiful and vibrant girl name.

Snow

Reminiscent of Snow White, this name is ideal for a baby born in the coldest months of the year.

Wren

I love this sweet name (a wren is a winter bird!)

Winter

This name has a crisp, unisex feel to it.

Wynter

Or swap the “i” for a “y.”

Winnie

Or go for a nickname version of “Winter” with “Winnie” instead.

Whittaker

Means “white field.” (Isn’t this a great boy name?)

Storm

Storm could go either way, but I particularly like it for a girl.
