Huggies Wipes FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions
UPDATED: August 24, 2015

Hello Huggies Parents,

My name is Eleonora and I am responsible for the Huggies Brand. As a mother myself, nothing is a higher priority than the wellbeing of the families who use our products, the safety of our products and the trust of parents who purchase our products.

We at Huggies take this responsibility seriously, and recognizing that there has been a great deal of discussion regarding Huggies wipes, I want to share a few key facts. We have now received the comprehensive analysis completed by the independent testing firm, McCrone Associates Inc., of the wipes that were returned to us.

- We can confirm NO glass or fiberglass was present.
- We found only microfibers used to manufacture our baby wipes.
- A shimmer can be caused by the microfibers reflecting light.

In extremely rare occasions, the manufacturing process can cause tiny particles of microfiber to form on the wipe that can be felt, but do not present a safety risk.

Additional information is provided below on this matter.

Based on the findings of the independent testing, we are confident that our product is safe.

If you have any concerns or questions about our products, I encourage you to contact Huggies Consumer Care at 1-888-485-6839 or http://bit.ly/8ZuAUH. Thank you.

Is there glass in your Huggies wipes?

No. We have now received the comprehensive analysis completed by the independent testing firm, McCrone Associates Inc., of the wipes that were returned to us. We can confirm NO glass or fiberglass was present.

Can you tell me more about the independent testing?

The independent testing found only materials used to manufacture our wipes including polypropylene, a microfiber commonly used for its softness and strength, and cellulose fiber, a naturally-derived material. These are commonly used materials found in a variety of products used by families including nearly all baby wipes and other personal care items. These materials have been proven safe for use over decades and through hundreds of clinical tests and trials.

What is polypropylene?

Polypropylene is a microfiber, similar to polyester, commonly used for its softness and strength, and used in a variety of products used by families including nearly all baby wipes and other personal care items. This is a commonly used material that has been proven safe for use over decades and through hundreds of clinical tests and trials.

Why are some parents saying they can feel particles on the wipes?

In extremely rare occasions, the manufacturing process can cause tiny particles of microfiber to form on the wipe that can be felt, but do not present a safety risk.

Is this normal?

While complaints of these particles being present are highly unusual - in fact, historically we experience 7 complaints per 1 billion wipes - we take our responsibility to provide families with products they can use with confidence very seriously and will continue to work directly with parents who have any questions or concerns.

Are these particles safe?

Based on the findings of the independent testing firm, we are confident that our product is safe and poses no health risk to babies.

Why are some parents seeing a shimmer in baby wipes?

Analysis showed that the shimmer is caused by the microfiber materials used in our wipes which can sometimes reflect light resulting in a shimmery appearance.

Are you going to change your manufacturing process?

Huggies manufactures the sheet for our wipes using a standard process that ensures our wipes have the quality, effectiveness and performance strength that millions of parents have come to trust from Huggies. We have no plans to change this process, which we have safely used for the past 25 years.

What should I do if my child has a skin irritation?

We are confident that all of our baby products, including baby wipes, are safe and pose no health risk to babies. As described on our packaging, if skin irritation does occur on your child, please discontinue use, and consult a physician if irritation persists.

Is there a lot number I should be looking for on my wipes?

No. If you have any concerns or questions about our products, I encourage you to contact Huggies Consumer Care at 1-888-485-6839 or http://bit.ly/8ZuAUH.

Is the story on social media true?

We understand parents concern, having seen the posts on social media. We want to assure you as a parent that no glass is used in the manufacturing process of our wipes and that our wipes are safe to use. We take all concerns about our wipes very seriously and while we are investigating the original complaint from a mom, we are also engaging with other parents who have reached out with concerns.

Have any babies been injured?

No. Nothing is more important to HUGGIES than the safety and wellbeing of those families that use our products.

How can I reach someone at Huggies?

We have set up a special phone number for consumers with questions on this issue, 1-888-485-6839. Consumers can also contact us via email through the Contact Us page on HUGGIES.com.

Will there be a recall?

We will not be recalling this product because our product is safe, and poses no health risk to babies.

Is the product safe to use in other applications, such as makeup removal?

Yes.
