Get fun baby bathtime tips to make baths easier for you and your little one.
These tub-time tips are worth their weight in soap—for baby and you, too.
Make it bath time a family affair. Bath time is double the fun when both mom and dad roll up their sleeves and wash baby together. It’s a great way to clock in some quality time after a long day at the office—and your tot will love being showered with attention.
Do everything and the kitchen sink. "I loved washing my baby in the kitchen sink," says Lindsay O’Connor, a mom of one in Tampa, Florida. "It raised her to my level so bath time got really interactive." Plus, standing up while bathing baby puts a lot less stress on your knees and back. Bonus!
Read ‘n wash. Squishy waterproof books combine two favorite activities: bath time and bedtime stories.
Sing as you scrub. Put those bathroom acoustics to good use! "I’ve been singing songs to Jake about the body parts I’m washing since he was a newborn," says mom of one Kim Cohen of St. Louis, Missouri. "This is the way we wash our feet, wash our feet, wash our feet—he loves it! He’s 15 months old now and already knows his ankles, wrists, and knees too."
Nurse your back. To help take the pressure off when you kneel on the side of the tub, rest your knees on a thick nursing pillow (like the Boppy) wrapped in a plastic bag. It cushions you and gives you a lift when you’re reaching for runaway tub toys.
Do His, Hers and Baby’s soap. Your little one doesn’t exactly need a monogrammed towel, but she’ll bubble with excitement at the sight of her own soap. "Each of my kids have an animal-shaped soap," says Wendy Hauser of Leawood, Kansas, a mom of twins. "They love using them to wash themselves, which makes bath time really easy and fun."
