Road trippin': Keeping small kids busy

Little kids don’t love long hours in the car. But your road trip or holiday getaway doesn’t necessarily have to be stressful. These ideas can make your next car ride way more fun.

Portable DVD players

To avoid arguments, try to have one per child. If you don't own any, ask around and borrow some.

Glow wands

If you are traveling at night, the kids will love this.

Pipe cleaners

You don't need to spend $20 on Bendaroos. Instead, pick up a pack of colorful pipe cleaners. The kids can twist them around into shapes, letters and anything else their imagination comes up with.

Play-Doh soft packs

The soft packs stay fresher longer and the bags are more travel friendly than the regular Play-Doh containers.

Music, books and more

Pack kid-friendly CDs, new or favorite books, and paper and markers. Plus, don't forget your kid's favorite pillow and blanket.

Snacks, sandwiches and drinks

Make sure to pack what your child loves. Special treats can make the ride more fun.
